Waukesha County Community Foundation welcomes UW Waukesha Legacy Funds

UW Milwaukee at Waukesha Foundation plans to transition assets to WCCF

Waukesha, Wis. – 8/30/2024 – The Waukesha County Community Foundation (WCCF) is proud to announce that it has entered into a Letter of Intent (“LOI”) with the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee at Waukesha Foundation, Inc (the “Foundation”) to transfer substantially all of the UWM at Waukesha Foundation’s assets to WCCF’s family of funds. This transfer will ensure the impact of the UWM at Waukesha Foundation’s donors will continue beyond the Spring 2025 closing of the UWM at Waukesha campus.

The UWM at Waukesha Foundation was founded in 1966 for the purpose of raising funds for university scholarships and other campus needs. With the closing of the UWM at Waukesha campus, the UWM at Waukesha Foundation’s impact will continue as part of the WCCF.

“Partnering with WCCF will ensure the legacy of UW Waukesha continues with support for student scholarships and academic programs,” said Calvin Leszczynski, President of the UWM at Waukesha Foundation’s Board of Directors.

The UWM at Waukesha Foundation’s letter of intent with WCCF sets out that the transition of its assets to the WCCF is to occur by the end of this year. The UWM at Waukesha Foundation’s assets will continue to support Waukesha County students attending UW schools. Beginning in early 2025, Waukesha County residents will be able to apply for scholarships through the WCCF’s online scholarship portal, available at www.waukeshafoundation.org .

Melissa Baxter, WCCF President, said the organizations have been in conversation since shortly after the announcement that the Waukesha campus would close. “We are honored to help ensure the legacy of the UWM at Waukesha Foundation as part of our mission to meet local challenges and improve the quality of life in our community.”

Education is one of the broad program areas of the WCCF, and the organization administered more than $850,000 in scholarships in 2023, awarding 531 scholarships to students.
